James Pearce has revealed that Liverpool expect to have record revenues when they publish their financial accounts for last season.
What’s the story?
According to The Athletic journalist, the Reds are expecting to post record revenues when their accounts are released before the end of February. That will come off the back of the Anfield outfit’s lucrative Champions League triumph last term.
Big boost for the summer?
Of course, lifting European football’s premier club competition last term was wonderful from a sporting point of view, and it has really set Liverpool up for the stunning season they are now in the middle of – they current lead the Premier League table by a record 22 points, the highest margin at the top in the history of England’s top-tier.

However, from a financial point of view, it really has paid dividends. Last season, when they lifted the trophy in Madrid, they picked up £98.5m according to The Mirror – a considerable amount for 13 games. With them currently top of the Premier League table, they may be looking to take home even more than the £152m they received for that competition last summer.
Whilst not all of that money will be reinvested into the playing squad, this could provide a boost for the summer transfer window, especially if they progress to the latter stages of the Champions League once again. The Reds have been linked with moves for Jadon Sancho and Kylian Mbappe in recent months but, with bids of £126m and £253.6m expected to be needed respectively, they will not come cheap. In the past, the Merseyside club would never have even been able to contemplate such offers – they started the previous decade in danger of going in to administration for example. Now, though, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they could move for these stars.
